Today, as part of Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re focusing on DEPRESSION. Depression is one of the most common mental health concerns but is frequently misunderstood! Depression is so much more than being sad, and if we don’t know what to look for we may dismiss our experiences of depression or misdiagnose what’s going on. A common misconception is that depression is “all in our heads,” but in reality we experience all kinds of physical symptoms as well that make it difficult for us to move forward.
Depression can get in the way of us living the life we want for ourselves and sometimes be self-perpetuating if we aren’t careful. For instance, we may isolate ourselves out of a fear of rejection...only to feel rejected because we are so often alone. If you regularly experience any of these symptoms, considering talking to a mental health practitioner or scheduling an appointment so you can better manage your depression and get back to living the life you want.
